One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.”

CHINESE PROVERB

It’s official. We have just sent out the first Optimal Questionnaire to someone we are very much looking forward to including in the discussion.  In doing so, we are hoping to launch a new series on the Optimalists that includes interviews with people (acquaintances friends, colleagues, strangers) who we think are doing interesting things that are related to establishing a more optimal lifestyle, thereby leading to a more (extra) ordinary life.

After some thought, we have decided it would be best to dedicate a post to describing how the Optimal Questionnaire works.  It’s really quite simple. If we had to give it another name, it would be called the Essential Questionnaire. For the sake of effectiveness, efficiency and brevity, the questionnaire consists of 5 general but straightforward questions that get straight to the point, and tell you everything you need to know.  They are as follows and in no particular order:

WHAT
WHERE
WHO
WHEN
WHY

There you have it. The essential 5. It doesn’t get much more basic than that, but if you think about it for a second, what else do you really need to know (rhetorically speaking).  If needed and when called for, an additional five questions will be included to beef things up.

Generally, I will be formulating the additional queries, but will keep it flexible and even encourage readers and interviewees to come up with their own topics, which they feel are worth mentioning. If you (readers) have follow-up questions that you would like to ask those being interviewed please include them in the comments section of the post and we will do our best to get them answered for you as promptly as possible.

So stay tuned to find out who’s up next on the chopping block …
