CONCEPT

The days of the armchair environmentalist are over. No longer can we afford to read the story elsewhere or have it recounted by another. Nor can we sit comfortably idle while the laws of cause and effect wreak havoc on our prestigious environment. We must all seek out our own truths, collect our own evidence, explore and connect with our surroundings.

To a new king, a new throne, embellished with jewelry and symbolic ornamentation, thrones of old celebrated stature and asserted the monarch’s authority over the kingdom. But the environmentalist’s throne is vacant, repelling
indolence with jagged shards of glass. Unlike it’s predecessor, this new throne rejoices in the absence of human warmth, the distant achievements of its patron a source of vicarious pride.  Nevertheless, despite the new breed of occupant, the sensible environmentalist’s throne remains a delicate and fragile entity — a chair who’s bejeweled appearance belies its humble source.

Its absent occupant serves as a reminder of the challenges we face and that we are, but the sum of parts that together make a whole that is worth protecting.
